FD & SA Pint of Science

On Monday May 19, 2025, François Devred (Team 9 and PINT platform) and Stephane Ayache (Team Qarma of LIS) met at the Kappa Bar at the invitation of PINT of Science Marseille to present to an audience of curious people who like science and/or beer, the work they have been carrying out over the last few years with various AP-HM departments, starting with Neuro-Onoclogy (with Emeline Tabouret) on the development of a multi-cancer diagnostic aid test (obviously non-invasive and inexpensive) or even more . ..

After a 20-minute 2-voice presentation rich in questions, the discussion continued more informally at the break (just after a scientific quiz - well done &to the 2 winners!) before resuming in “round table” mode. A great experience in popularizing science.

Title: A drop of blood to detect cancer?

Summary: By diverting a biophysical method from its original purpose and coupling it with AI, we have developed a test that can detect several types of cancer from a simple blood sample with an accuracy of over 94%. The discovery and development of this method based on AI classification of plasma denaturation profiles obtained by nanoDSF was only possible thanks to the collaboration of clinicians, biophysicists and data scientists. Quick and easy to set up, it paves the way for a pan-cancer or even universal early detection test.
