To nicely end 2021 year, Dominika Pilat, student in Neural Plasticity and Degeneration Team (Team 1), successfully defended her thesis on the 16th of December. She gave a very clear, precise and comprehensive presentation highlighting the pivotal role of MT5-MMP in the neuroinflammation in an Alzheimer’s Disease model. The jury was unanimous to underline the great work Dominika accomplished during the four years she has spent at the INP leading to the publication of an article into the Journal of Neuroinflammation in which she is first author.
She will soon be leaving Europe to join the lab of prof. Rudy Tanzi in Genetics and Aging Research Unit of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. She will be working on characterization of molecular and biochemical roles of late-onset Alzheimer’s disease candidate genes in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. Among these are the microglial receptors CD33 and TREM2, which modulate immune response and neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease. We wish Dominika best of luck for her post-doctoral position and hope to collaborate with her again in a near future.
